‘African Violet’ to hit silver screens in Canada, US

Iranian filmmaker Mona Zandi Haghighi’s latest drama ‘African Violet’ is to hit silver screens across Canada and the US.

‘African Violet’, produced by Alireza Shoja-Nouri, has kicked off global screening in various cities of Canada and America concurrent with national theatrical release in Iran.

The Venera Films, a US-based film distribution company, and the France-based DreamLab Films have been announced as the international distributors of ‘African Violet’. 

‘African Violet’ is about a middle-aged woman named Shokouh who finds out that her ex-husband, Fereydoun, has been placed in a nursing home by their children. She, and her second husband Reza, decide to take care of Fereydoun in their own home. The newcomer affects Reza and Shokouh’s daily life, and unexpected changes take place in the lives of all three characters. 

The film was premiered at several festivals worldwide and won some awards, including the High School Award and the Audience Award at the 25th Vesoul Int’l Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France and the Special Jury Award at the 6th Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon.

The 93-minute flick also took part in the 37th Fajr Film Festival held in Iran and succeeded to win two nominations for Best Film Score (Peyman Yazdanian) and  Best Actress in a Leading Role (Fatemeh Motamed-Arya).

Reza Babak, Saeed Aqakhani and Fatemeh Motamed-Arya are among the leading characters of the movie.
